About me
A proud Cal State Fullerton alum, Vargas was the first Hispanic female reporter to be hired at NBC4. She was the face of Orange County for NBCLA for nearly 40 years before retiring in 2023. Vargas began her career as a reporter and weekend anchor at KESQ in Palm Springs (1981–82), then joined KNBC-TV Burbank as a general assignment reporter. Over four decades, she earned 5 Golden Mikes, 4 Emmys, and the RTNA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. In 2011, Vargas and NBCLA endowed a scholarship at CSUF for first-gen broadcast journalism students—just like herself. Now consulting as a News Content Specialist at NBC Palm Springs, Vargas is focused on giving back and mentoring the next generation of journalists.
