Lea Zora Scruggs is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker from Miami, Florida. She currently serves as a correspondent for the LA Sentinel’s Community Insider segment, delivering live reports on KCAL (CBS News LA). Her professional journey includes developing and directing the acclaimed documentary Rethinking Strong: Black Athletes & Mental Health for CBS Sports. Prior to her current role, Lea held a position as a documentary programming executive at Endeavor's Film 45, showcasing her diverse industry experience. She has also contributed her talents as a reporter and producer/director for Vice Media’s Vice News Tonight and as an on-camera host and video producer for BuzzFeed. Lea's impactful storytelling has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including an Emmy for her news coverage at Vice News, a Planned Parenthood Media Excellence Award for Nat Geo’s Jailed For Miscarriage story documenting extreme fertility laws in El Salvador, and an NABJ Salute to Excellence award for Best General News Reporting for The Harlem Quartet. She holds degrees from Spelman College and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she specialized in documentary filmmaking.
